A big cheque for Crisis charity

FEBRUARY 26: The choir presented a cheque for £1100 to the Croydon Crisis charity for the homeless at its Sandilands rehearsal last week. CMVC raised the funds for the charity while singing at the Whitgift centre during the Christmas period.

Choir chair Kim Ormond with Crisis exec Rosie Birch, plus £1100 cheque

Choir chair Kim Ormond said that the choir was delighted to make the presentation to “this fantastic charity”.  He added: “I feel so sorry that we should need a charity to do this kind of work – but I hope our contribution will make a difference.”

Community and events executive Rosie Birch accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity.  She told the choir: “We are really grateful for this brilliant support from the Croydon Male Voice Choir, who have done a wonderful job in raising £1100 for Crisis.  We could not do this vital work without such fantastic supporters.”

The charity’s Croydon base is in Surrey Street.  Over Christmas, the charity helped 244 “guests”, whose ages ranged from 18 to 75.  They were offered a range of assistance, including hot meals, showers, new or clean clothes and somewhere to sleep, together with advice on topics such as housing, employment and health.

In what has become an annual event, the choir sang at the Whitgift Centre on two Sundays before Christmas, delighting shoppers – and attracting their donations – with selections from its current repertoire, including musical numbers, folk songs and hymns, together with a plentiful selection of carols.
