TWO MORE WALKS....AND A SING

The walking group has undertaken two outings in quick succession in past weeks.  On 17 August ten walkers enjoyed balmy weather on a five-mile circuit from the White Bear at Fickleshole.   They stopped at the Harrow in Farleight en route and also inspected the church of St Mary the Virgin - venue for the wedding of the daughter of choir stalwart Dick Diplock.

That was followed by an outing on 7 September which combined a walk and a singing visit to the Elizabeth Court care home in Caterham.  The eleven walkers set out from the Old Fox, Coulsdon, shortly after 2pm.  They took in Happy Valley and Chaldon church, where they sang Jacob's Ladder, as they made their way to Elizabeth Court, whose residents include Jean Bannister – Dave’s mum.

The walkers were joined by eleven other choir members to serenade some two dozen residents with a selection from the choir’s past and present repertoire.   They were warmly thanked for their efforts and treated to some scrumptious cakes and tea.

The walking group then spent another hour on a delightful circuit that took them back to the Fox.

Two more walks have been scheduled. The first is on Wednesday, 30 September, starting at the Inn on the Pond at Nutfield Marsh. The second will be on Monday 19 October.  

That will be the last walk before clocks revert to GMT, which will require a revision of our customary starting time of 2.00 or 2.30pm.
