Choir shows out at Sandilands

OCTOBER 4: Our choir put on a splendid show at the Sandilands Club Open Day on Sunday, October 1.   The Sandilands club wanted to demonstrate its recent enormous improvements to local residents and to boost its social membership.

CMVC mounted a display near the entrance to the bar area, staged by John Ward Turner who erected an impressive array of photographs depicting recent concerts, tours and our musical personnel.  He was supported by Andrew Dadley who set up CD and DVD displays and an iPad showing the choir website.

We were the only club to have such a display and our location by the entrance gave us the ideal opportunity to grab residents arriving at the club and direct them to our stand, before pointing them to the other clubs taking part.  These included the Striders running club, the ladies’ running club, and the hockey, tennis and cricket clubs.

The main hall area was set up with equipment for the club’s gym and fitness offerings.  The club and grounds were decorated with balloons, banners and flags representing the various sports and social clubs who meet there.  In addition, the day was advertised through a leaflet drop in the locality.

The choir was delighted with the outcome of the open day.  As well as arousing interest in our activities,  we have already enlisted one new recruit, and had an inquiry from another resident about staging a concert at his church.

The choir was represented on the day by Brian Cantrell, Andrew Dadley, Tom Jones, Keith Meredith, Ted Mouat, Tim Ramskill, Philip Talmage, and John Ward Turner.   Our thanks to all of them!
